“Paws for Puppies”
Smokey the Siberian Husky lost her paw. She had gotten out of the house, and she was chasing a rabbit. After a while of chasing the rabbit she got her foot stuck in a pile of rocks. It wasn’t long before ice was freezing over. Her foot began to lose function. When her owner finally had found her foot was removed, her foot was found gray. The family had to seek immediate help. Smokey’s foot would have to be amputated.
After the surgery Smokey couldn’t walk without discomfort, or without a great effort to move. So her family decided to look for a company that would help get a prosthetic for Smokey. They had searched for awhile, and they weren’t getting anywhere. Finally after a few months a company had reached out to the family, the company was “Paws for Puppies”. The family emailed them as quickly as possible to get a visit for Smokey. Next thing lead to the next and Smokey went to her first visit with the company. Smokey was fitted for a prosthetic. The company had printed the first prototype in a few months. The prototype was created with 3D printing software. The company tried many types of shapes and angles for the prosthetic to make the best possible movement for Smokey. Then they would try to find any defaults, or fix anything that could help with Smokey’s comfort. Finally Smokey got a perfect fit for a prosthetic. The ending prosthetic was made with acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, a plastic type filament, the foot part was created to support the weight just like her foot would.
Smokey was finally moving again. In order to help Smokey with getting used to the prosthetic the company would provide physical therapy. With the help of physical therapy Smokey could move as swiftly as she could before the accident. The prosthetic is life changing for Smokey. She is happy with her prosthetic, and now Smokey can move freely without discomfort, and live her puppy years like a puppy should.
